Long-time residents will remember that the Yeller Sub was first located on Juan Tabo not too far from Manzano High School. Today it resides in the Louisiana Plaza Shopping Center off Montgomery.\u00a0 Its current corner storefront has remained a popular dining destination for more than two decades.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_71767\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-71767\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-71767 lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 600px; of the submarine.\u00a0\u00a0 Original Beatles &#8220;action figures&#8221; (my Star Wars loving friend Ken gets upset if they&#8217;re called figurines or dolls), some featuring the famous yellow submarine, can be seen on the counters.\u00a0 Many of them were gifts from faithful customers and remain in their original wrapped boxes.\u00a0 Should you opt to dine in, you&#8217;ll be immersed in the musical stylings of the 70s and 80s (at least that&#8217;s been our experience).\u00a0 We didn&#8217;t hear a single Beatles song during any of our visits.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_71782\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-71782\" style=\"width: 436px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-71782 lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 436px; menu.\u00a0 Subs, designed to be served hot, are crafted without garnish though garnishes are available for an additional charge. subs are also available.\u00a0 Obviously, Yeller Sub has been creating sandwiches for a long time which New Mexicans love.\u00a0 In 2025, Yeller Sub earned &#8220;Best Sandwich&#8221; honors from Albuquerque The Magazine readers.\u00a0 Framed certificates showcasing other honors reflect both both Yeller Sub&#8217;s longevity and the love Duke City sandwich aficionados have for this institution.<\/p>\n<p>The Yeller Sub menu isn&#8217;t limited to sandwiches.\u00a0 In fact, one of the best reasons to visit is for ice cream and desserts featuring Blue Bell ice cream, a gift from Texas to the rest of the world.\u00a0 All ice cream scoops are generously portioned to a full quarter-pound per scoop.\u00a0 Banana splits&#8211;three scoops of your favorite flavors&#8211;easily serve two.\u00a0 Other dessert options include a banana royale, shakes and malts and a &#8220;fudge-nutty&#8221; One of the first things you&#8217;ll notice about the bread at Yeller sub is how chewy (a sign of just how fresh it is), moist and delicious it is. it&#8217;s just plain good!\u00a0 It&#8217;s one of few sandwiches in which I don&#8217;t mind a pile of lettuce because Yeller Sub is generous in dousing veggies with their outstanding Italian dressing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>16 February 2013<\/strong>: It&#8217;s been pretty well established in recent years that New Mexico&#8217;s foray into the nationwide discussion as to the best burgers in the fruited plain stops and ends with the green chile cheeseburger.\u00a0 Enterprising restaurateurs throughout the Land of Enchantment have created their own unique takes on this ubiquitous classic, most commonly replacing burger buns with tortillas or sopaipillas.\u00a0 At the Yeller Sub, you won&#8217;t find tortillas or sopaipillas, but you will find a burger on a sub sandwich bun.\u00a0 You&#8217;ll want green chile on the <strong><em>Burger Torpedo<\/em><\/strong> and you&#8217;ll want the full fourteen-inch size (which is closer to 15 inches than it is to 12).\u00a0 The Burger Torpedo is made from 100% ground patties made on-site to fit the sandwich rolls.\u00a0 It&#8217;s topped with lettuce, tomatoes, onions and the special Italian dressing which prevents a tangy counterpoint to the piquancy of the green chile.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_73525\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-73525\" style=\"width: 850px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-73525 lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 850px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 850\/506;border: 4px solid black; margin-top: 3px; margin-bottom: 3px;\" data-src=\"https:\/\/b4385483.smushcdn.com\/4385483\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/YellerSub14-scaled.png?lossy=2&strip=1&webp=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"850\" height=\"506\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/b4385483.smushcdn.com\/4385483\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/YellerSub14-scaled.png?lossy=2&amp;strip=1&amp;webp=1 850w, https:\/\/b4385483.smushcdn.com\/4385483\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/YellerSub14-scaled.png?size=128x76&amp;lossy=2&amp;strip=1&amp;webp=1 128w, https:\/\/b4385483.smushcdn.com\/4385483\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/YellerSub14-scaled.png?size=256x152&amp;lossy=2&amp;strip=1&amp;webp=1 256w, https:\/\/b4385483.smushcdn.com\/4385483\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/YellerSub14-scaled.png?size=384x229&amp;lossy=2&amp;strip=1&amp;webp=1 384w, https:\/\/b4385483.smushcdn.com\/4385483\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/YellerSub14-scaled.png?size=512x305&amp;lossy=2&amp;strip=1&amp;webp=1 512w, https:\/\/b4385483.smushcdn.com\/4385483\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/YellerSub14-scaled.png?size=640x381&amp;lossy=2&amp;strip=1&amp;webp=1 640w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-73525\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A Bucket of Onion Rings<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>3 February 2026<\/strong>:\u00a0 Even the most ardent of Arby&#8217;s aficionados will find Yeller Sub&#8217;s <strong><em>Roast Beef Torpedo<\/em><\/strong> several orders of magnitude better than the chain sandwich shop&#8217;s mediocre offering.\u00a0 Yeller Sub adorns this torpedo with thin slices of top-round roast beef cooked medium well then topped with lettuce, tomatoes, onions and the signature Italian dressing.\u00a0 Order the fourteen-inch long and you&#8217;ll have half a sandwich left over for later.\u00a0 The roast beef torpedo is as good cold as it is warm.\u00a0Even better than the roast beef torpedo is the <em><strong>steak and grilled onions sub.<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0 It&#8217;s the nearest thing Yeller Sub has to a Philly cheesesteak (provided you add cheese, of course).\u00a0 The steak is grilled on a flat top along with the onions.\u00a0 You might be able to tell from the photo above that sometimes the steak and onion spend too much time on the flat top.\u00a0 It helps with caramelization, but not so much if you don&#8217;t like so much char.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3 February 2026<\/strong>:\u00a0 Too much time on the flat top also desecrated my <em><strong>pastrami torpedo<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 There is no excuse for desiccated pastrami.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a mortal sin!\u00a0 In anticipation that the pastrami would not be of the caliber I enjoyed so much in Massachussets, I asked for it to be\u00a0 topped with lettuce, onions, tomatoes and as much Italian dressing as could be added.\u00a0 Those additions proved the torpedoe&#8217;s saving grace.\u00a0 Ordinarily the only additives a pastrami sandwich should need are a good deli mustard and cheese (preferably Provolone).\u00a0 Yeller Sub&#8217;s pastrami torpedo needed all the help it could get.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not a sandwich that will ever grace our table again.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_73536\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-73536\" style=\"width: 427px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-73536 lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 427px;
