Even Santa Fe&#8217;s cuisine is lavished with laudation. \u00a0Critics and patrons alike \u00a0lionize Fanta Se&#8217;s restaurants and the world class chefs which preside over \u00a0traditional earthen ovens, ultra-modern steely\u00a0stoves \u00a0and Spanish style tapas grills to prepare the mouth-watering marriage of traditional and contemporary cuisine that has made Santa Fe one of the country&#8217;s foremost dining destinations.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_70073\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-70073\" style=\"width: 850px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-70073 lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 850px; restaurants in Santa Fe. \u00a0The appellation for one of \u00a0them, Realburger, even speaks to its down-to-earthiness. \u00a0Perhaps that&#8217;s why it appeals so much to diners who who don&#8217;t necessarily want the taste bud confusion of disparate exotic ingredients competing for their rapt attention; diners who want something filling and delicious without having to spend a week&#8217;s salary; diners who don&#8217;t need or care to be impressed&#8211;in other words real people who want real food.<\/p>\n<p>Contrary to its name, RealBurger isn&#8217;t solely about burgers though that&#8217;s probably where your eyes will first gravitate.\u00a0 You&#8217;ll likely contemplate whether to enjoy a six-ounce Angus beef burger, a double patty Angus beef burger or a tortilla or sopaipilla burger.\u00a0 \u00a0If you&#8217;re of a healthy bent, you can also choose a turkey burger or a veggie burger.\u00a0 \u00a0What you will find on that menu is a compendium of hearty, stick-to-your-ribs American comfort food along with traditional New Mexican favorites, innovative vegetarian entrees and a few surprises thrown in for good measure.\u00a0 Make sure to study options for burritos, tacos and tortas.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_70075\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-70075\" style=\"width: 850px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-70075 lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 850px; perception, Realburger relocated in 2012 to Cerrillos Road, arguably the city&#8217;s most heavily trafficked street.\u00a0 Realburger&#8217;s address is almost right out of Harry Potter: 2641 1\/2 Cerrillos Road.\u00a0 The 1\/2 probably has to do with the restaurant being recessed from Cerrillos.\u00a0 It&#8217;s actually on the corner of Cerrillos and Maez Road, behind a purveyor of fine cannabis products.<\/p>\n<p>RealBurger has a long history in Santa Fe, dating back to 1974 as both a restaurant and a catering business. \u00a0Realburger got its start in 1974 in a space on Don Gaspar Avenue on the edge of downtown.\u00a0 After twenty years at that location, Realburger moved to a restaurant space of the Park Inn on Cerrillos Road before relocating to the Old Pecos Trail Inn location.\u00a0 Our first two visits to Realburger were at the Old Pecos Trail location where shock and awe was reaction at first perusal of the menu. \u00a0The appetizers include Yakidori Orange Chicken Kebabs, Yakidori Grilled Shrimp, Mini Egg Rolls with Orange Sauce and Taco Dogs ( a hot dog and slice of American cheese wrapped in a tortilla and served with a paprika-based dipping sauce).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_70076\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-70076\" style=\"width: 850px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-70076 lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 850px; proclamation, I asked the friendly staff where the <em>second<\/em> best burgers in Santa Fe could be found.\u00a0 Without hesitation, an owner boasted &#8220;<em>our only competition comes from Realburger<\/em>.&#8221;\u00a0 With that endorsement in hand, I backtracked on Cerrillos to Realburger.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_70077\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-70077\" style=\"width: 692px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-70077 lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 692px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 692\/800;margin-top: 3px; margin-bottom: 3px; border: 4px solid black;\" data-src=\"https:\/\/b4385483.smushcdn.com\/4385483\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/Realburger05-scaled.jpeg?lossy=2&strip=1&webp=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"692\" height=\"800\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/b4385483.smushcdn.com\/4385483\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/Realburger05-scaled.jpeg?lossy=2&strip=1&webp=1 2214w, https:\/\/b4385483.smushcdn.com\/4385483\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/Realburger05-259x300.jpeg?lossy=2&strip=1&webp=1 259w, https:\/\/b4385483.smushcdn.com\/4385483\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/Realburger05-885x1024.jpeg?lossy=2&strip=1&webp=1 885w, https:\/\/b4385483.smushcdn.com\/4385483\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/Realburger05-130x150.jpeg?lossy=2&strip=1&webp=1 130w, https:\/\/b4385483.smushcdn.com\/4385483\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/Realburger05-768x888.jpeg?lossy=2&strip=1&webp=1 768w, https:\/\/b4385483.smushcdn.com\/4385483\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/Realburger05-1328x1536.jpeg?lossy=2&strip=1&webp=1 1328w, https:\/\/b4385483.smushcdn.com\/4385483\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/Realburger05-1771x2048.jpeg?lossy=2&strip=1&webp=1 1771w, https:\/\/b4385483.smushcdn.com\/4385483\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/Realburger05.jpeg?size=384x444&lossy=2&strip=1&webp=1 384w, https:\/\/b4385483.smushcdn.com\/4385483\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/Realburger05.jpeg?size=512x592&lossy=2&strip=1&webp=1 512w, https:\/\/b4385483.smushcdn.com\/4385483\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/Realburger05.jpeg?size=640x740&lossy=2&strip=1&webp=1 640w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 692px) 100vw, 692px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-70077\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A Mountain of Ribbon Fries<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A la carte taco options are plentiful:\u00a0 carne adovada, chicharrones, grilled chicken, ground beef, refried beans, pan-fried potatoes, seasonal fish, al pastor, carne asada and calabasitas.\u00a0 For what more can you possibly ask?\u00a0 Tacos are constructed on your choice of a hard-shelled or on a steamed corn tortilla.\u00a0 Have one of each for a textural adventure just as I did.\u00a0\u00a0 Tacos are served with a surfeit of lettuce and chopped tomato as well as salsa.\u00a0 The salsa has just a bit of bite, just enough to give the tacos personality.\u00a0 The hard-shelled <em><strong>ground beef taco<\/strong><\/em> is somewhat reminiscent of the tacos you&#8217;d get at Taco Bell at least in appearance.\u00a0 Taco Bell doesn&#8217;t have anything like Realburger&#8217;s salsa which really makes it a good taco.\u00a0 Better is a <em><strong>carne adovada taco<\/strong><\/em> on two steamed corn tortillas.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not conventional New Mexican carne adovada&#8230;or perhaps I was mistakenly given a carne asada taco.<\/p>\n<p>Realburger offers a package deal meal&#8211;a burger, fries and a soft drink.\u00a0 Five types of fries&#8211;Real fries, ribbon fries, tater tots, sweet potato fries and crisscut cries&#8211;are part of the deal.\u00a0 The portion of <em><strong>ribbon fries<\/strong><\/em> delivered to your table will elicit oohs and aahs from neighboring tables.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a very popular choice, one that begs the question &#8220;<em>aren&#8217;t ribbon fries really just potato chips<\/em>.&#8221;\u00a0 As potato chips they&#8217;re very good.\u00a0 As fries not so much.\u00a0 Realburgers doesn&#8217;t serve chile con queso which would make a wonderful dip for the ribbon fries.\u00a0 Alternatively you can dip them in salsa, but that&#8217;s not quite as good a dip as con queso would be.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_70080\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-70080\" style=\"width: 850px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-70080 lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 850px;
