Pizza is like sex\u2014even when it&#8217;s bad, it&#8217;s good<\/em>.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Verdana;\">Ironically, as a teenager Janssen became a vegetarian for &#8220;ethical reasons&#8221; but determined rather quickly that he didn&#8217;t like vegetables.\u00a0 A pizza diet seemed to make sense.\u00a0 Just as a diet of nothing but McDonald&#8217;s food for a month wreaked havoc on Morgan Spurlock&#8217;s health, Janssen&#8217;s pizza diet has given him diabetes and created low blood sugar issues.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_54582\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-54582\" style=\"width: 750px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/b4385483.smushcdn.com\/4385483\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/SliceDIce02.gif?lossy=2&strip=1&webp=1\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-54582 size-full lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 750px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 750\/629;border: 4px solid black; margin-top: 3px; margin-bottom: 3px;\" data-src=\"https:\/\/b4385483.smushcdn.com\/4385483\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/SliceDIce02.gif?lossy=2&strip=1&webp=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"629\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-54582\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Full House<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Verdana;\">In terms of pizza consumption, Dan Janssen is&#8230;well above average (putting it mildly).\u00a0 The average American eats an average of 46 slices of pizza per year, amounting to 23 pounds of pizza per year.\u00a0 Over a lifetime, the average American will eat 6,000 slices of pizza&#8211;or about what it would take Janssen just over a year to polish off. Janssen came to mind on our trip home as we were transporting our first-ever pizza from the aptly named Slice &amp; Dice in far northwest Albuquerque.\u00a0 The aromas emanating from the backseat were driving me crazy&#8230;as in needing windshield wipers inside my truck cab crazy&#8230;as in Carly Simon &#8220;anticipation is makin me wait&#8221; crazy.\u00a0 Not only did those aromas make me behave like one of Pavlov&#8217;s dogs, it made me envious of Dan Janssen.\u00a0 Right then and there&#8211;even before tasting it&#8211;I swore I could eat 6,000 slices of Slice &amp; Dice pizza.\u00a0 My truck had the alluring aroma of a fresh pizza just extricated from a high heat oven.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Verdana;\">Slice &amp; Dice has been making guests behave like Pavlov&#8217;s dogs since it launched in August, 2018.\u00a0 We envied guests who were fortunate enough to eat at the restaurant. They were able to quickly confirm what the enticing aromas were telling them&#8211;that Slice &amp; Dice bakes one heckuva pizza.\u00a0 We, on-the-other-hand, had to transport our fourteen-inch pie 10.3 miles, a 25-minute excursion at posted speed limits. It was akin to being inches away from riches untold but not being able to grasp them. Owner Vic Briseno was raised in the family pizzeria, the <a href=\"http:\/\/surfshackpizza.net\/home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Surf Shack<\/strong><\/a> in Grants, New Mexico, which, according to its website,\u00a0 &#8220;has been making killer pizza for 15 years.&#8221;\u00a0 \u00a0The restaurant&#8217;s pedigree is subtitled &#8220;Board Game Pizzeria,&#8221; a homage to Vic Briseno&#8217;s other passion.\u00a0 Slice &amp; Dice provides an extensive board game library that guests can choose from to enjoy while dining on family recipes. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Verdana;\">There&#8217;s more than pizza on the menu though Dan Janssen would never get that far in reading the menu.\u00a0 He&#8217;d never, for example, notice that there are four sub-sandwiches on the menu as well as six specialty subs.\u00a0 Nor would Janssen even consider any of the four appetizers, not even the <em><strong>stuffed mushrooms<\/strong><\/em> (baked mushrooms with Italian sausage, onion, bell pepper and cream cheese topped with Parmesan).\u00a0 Thank goodness my Kim and I aren&#8217;t on an exclusive pizza diet.\u00a0 The stuffed mushrooms, six per order, are terrific.\u00a0 Each teacup sized mushroom cap will give you two- to three-bites of juiciness and flavor.\u00a0 \u00a0In some ways, it&#8217;s like pizza within a mushroom with the added surprise twist of cream cheese.\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Verdana;\">We had barely set food into our home before attacking our pizza, the aptly named <em><strong>Full House<\/strong><\/em> (pepperoni, sausage, beef, mushrooms, onions and black olives).\u00a0 Anticipation may have made us wait, but that wait was rewarded with a pizza as good as the aromas had announced.\u00a0 The canvas for this circular masterpiece was a chewy &#8220;pan-style crust&#8221; about halfway between thin and thick.\u00a0 The meats are sheathed under a molten blanket of melting cheese with mushrooms and black olives on top.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a convergence of ingredients that really work well together.\u00a0 Contrary to my initial impressions, we couldn&#8217;t finish off but two slices each&#8211;a good thing it turns out because breakfast pizza is as good as lunch and dinner pizza.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Verdana;\">This is a pizza which earns its name of Full House.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Verdana;\">It&#8217;s not likely we&#8217;ll ever adopt a diet as singularly focused as Dan Janssen, however, restaurants such as Slice &amp; Dice are able to put that notion into our minds.\u00a0 That&#8217;s saying a lot.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;\">Slice &amp; Dice<br \/>\n<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: small;
