(Mexican slang demonym\u00a0referring to something &#8220;belonging to Mexico City) cuisine is the featured culinary fare at Nena&#8217;s Foods. \u00a0We did a double-take upon seeing some of our Chilango favorites heretofore not seen in any of the Duke City&#8217;s Mexican restaurants. \u00a0Among them are pambazo (<em>a sandwich stuffed with potatoes and chorizo and then drenched in a guajillo sauce, served with lettuce, cheese, and cream<\/em>), flan de elote (<em>Mexican white corn flan<\/em>) and pan de elote (<em>Mexican corn bread<\/em>). \u00a0Exploring the menu was a delight. \u00a0Eating was even better. <\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_56743\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-56743\" style=\"width: 750px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/b4385483.smushcdn.com\/4385483\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/NenasFood04-scaled.jpeg?lossy=2&strip=1&webp=1\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-56743 lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 750px; avocado slices glistening with freshness, chopped tomatoes, crispy cucumber and fragrant cilantro all tossed in a tart lemon and lime citrus sauce. \u00a0Sporting the colors (red, green and white) of the Mexican flag, ceviche is one of those\u00a0inherently healthy dishes that just happens to taste good. \u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>Despite the siren&#8217;s call of dishes having their genesis in Mexico City, the dish calling loudest to me was Nena&#8217;s \u201c<em><strong>quesabirria<\/strong><\/em>,\u201d a Portmanteau for the combination of \u00a0queso (cheese) and birria, the traditional Mexican stew. \u00a0Essentially quesabirria is a\u00a0birria taco with melted cheese\u2014a sort of cross between a taco and a quesadilla. \u00a0Nena&#8217;s version is made with tender shredded strands of rich, unctuous lamb bathed in a slow-cooked\u00a0chile-tinged consom\u00e9 stock made from guajillo peppers, stock and chickpeas (yes chickpeas!).\u00a0\u00a0 A cup of that consom\u00e9 accompanies your order \u00a0It&#8217;s perfect for dipping your quesabirria or for sipping in between bites.\u00a0\u00a0The crispy taco shells are also bathed in the consom\u00e9, giving them a reddish hue. \u00a0Melted queso imparts a salty sharpness. \u00a0Of all the forms and permutations of birria we&#8217;ve had, Nena&#8217;s quesabirria is among our very favorites. \u00a0It&#8217;s simply outstanding! \u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>While a trip to Mexico City isn&#8217;t always convenient, getting to Nena&#8217;s Foods will transport you to the capital city of one of the world&#8217;s most dynamic culinary destinations. \u00a0Your challenge will be ordering a dish which emanates from Mexico City when there are so many other wonderful options. \u00a0You can&#8217;t go wrong with any of them.<\/ \n\n<strong>Nena&#8217;s Foods<\/strong><br \/>\n600 Louisiana Blvd., S.E.<br \/>\n<strong>Albuquerque, New Mexico<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>LATEST VISIT<\/strong>: 2 January 2021<br \/>\n<strong># OF VISITS<\/strong>: 1<br \/>\n<strong>RATING<\/strong>: N\/R<br \/>\n<strong>COST<\/strong>: $$<br \/>\n<strong>BEST BET<\/strong>: Quesabirria with Consomme, Ceviche, Horchata<br \/>\n<strong>REVIEW #1200 <\/strong> <\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;The restaurant business, as I well know, ain&#8217;t no picnic.
