Eatery on College Blvd. in Farmington<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Before heading off for an overnight stay in Farmington back in February, 2023, I scoured the internet for suggestions on where to have breakfast. \u00a0My criteria was simple: \u00a0preferably a Navajo owned-and-operated eatery.\u00a0 Restaurants who spell New Mexico&#8217;s official state vegetable &#8220;chili&#8221; wouldn&#8217;t be considered. \u00a0Yelp came through on its listing of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/search?find_desc=Breakfast+Restaurants&amp;find_loc=Farmington%2C+NM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>ten best restaurants for breakfast<\/strong><\/a> in Farmington. \u00a0At the very top of that list was Juniper Coffee and Eatery on College Blvd. \u00a0Little did I know how enthusiastically and overwhelmingly that choice would be endorsed later by people with whom I shared a dinner table and many laughs. \u00a0Serendipity certainly played a role in my breakfast venue of choice.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_71072\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-71072\" style=\"width: 850px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-71072 lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 850px; \u00a0The size of the menu certainly does not speak to the deliciousness of the food. \u00a0Getting to Juniper when it first opens in the morning may reap additional benefits&#8211;such as fresh muffins and scones just out of the oven. \u00a0There&#8217;s nothing like warm scones just out of the oven, especially when they&#8217;re <em><strong>blueberry scones<\/strong><\/em> with blueberries a plenty. Tender, flaky, light, and golden brown on top, the scones are punctuated generously with juicy, tangy blueberries. \u00a0What a wonderful treat!<\/p>\n<p><strong>11 February 2023<\/strong>: The wonderful Pioche family would not be very happy with me if I hadn&#8217;t ordered the <em><strong>blue corn bowl<\/strong><\/em> (blue corn mush, blueberries, raspberries, bananas, chi seeds, honey, toasted almonds). \u00a0In my childhood, blue corn mush was one of those foods I avoided like it was made with stinging nettles. \u00a0My mom loved the stuff. \u00a0She would certainly love how Juniper prepares it. \u00a0In my defense, mush is one of those foods that gets a bad rap. When people refer to food as &#8220;mush,&#8221; it is usually an insult meaning it has an off-putting texture most efficiently eaten by people wearing dentures. \u00a0My first taste of the blue corn mush almost validated why I hadn&#8217;t liked it then I remembered my mom would add sugar. \u00a0Sweet mush is much better, especially when your spoon shares space with the berries and nuts. \u00a0This is a mush dish that made a convert out of me!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_62917\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-62917\" style=\"width: 750px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-62917 lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 750px; flavor and a slightly grainy texture not to mention that characteristic tinge of blue complementing the golden waffle.\u00a0 Fresh strawberries and blackberries along with the triple berry coulis imbued these waffles with tangy notes that contrasted (in a loving way) the sweetness of the maple syrup.\u00a0 These waffles are worth a trip to Farmington.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_71073\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-71073\" style=\"width: 690px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-71073 lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 690px;
