Dictionaries were of little help as their content was mostly limited to English words. \u00a0The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Velazquez-Spanish-English-Dictionary\/dp\/1594950008\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Velazquez<\/strong> <\/a>dictionary was helpful when I wanted to learn a new Spanish word, but that, too, was limiting.\u00a0 Alas, no comprehensive resource seemed to exist to sate my curiosity.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_65100\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-65100\" style=\"width: 750px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-65100 lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 750px; meant.\u00a0 Surely, when Jeanie&#8217;s master&#8217;s parents named their son Habib, it was because the etymology of the name meant something to them.\u00a0 Maybe the name represented a trait such as bravery or intelligence.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn&#8217;t until the Air Force stationed me in Massachusetts that I learned what Habib means.\u00a0 One of the owners of a Middle Eastern restaurant outside of Boston gave me the type of vocabulary lesson a lexiphile (another term for lover of words) like me loves.\u00a0 He explained that Habib literally translates as \u201ca person one loves,\u201d a term of endearment among Arabic speaking nations. \u00a0 To use the term in the masculine sense, you would use &#8220;habibi.&#8221;\u00a0 For a female, you would use &#8220;habibti.&#8221;\u00a0 You would probably not use either habibi or habiti to address your boss or a colleague with whom you are not having an intimate relationship.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_63678\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-63678\" style=\"width: 750px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-63678 lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 750px; In her definitive tome <em>A New Book of Middle Eastern Food <\/em>Egyptian born food writer\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.falstaff.com\/nd\/civilised-sundays-return-at-top-london-restaurant\/\">Claudia Roden<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0refers to <strong><em>baba ganoush<\/em><\/strong> as \u201c<em>exciting and vulgarly seductive<\/em>.\u201d \u00a0Great adjectives! \u00a0Habibi House&#8217;s version is among the best in the metropolitan area, its distinctive smoky notes pervading every morsel. \u00a0Better still, it&#8217;s served with perhaps the best pita in New Mexico. \u00a0It&#8217;s pita nearly the size of a tortilla and it&#8217;s served out of the oven.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_63681\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-63681\" style=\"width: 750px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-63681 lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 750px; \u00a0Yeah, it&#8217;s a bit like trusting Alec Baldwin to teach you gun safety, but almost invariably the <em><strong>lamb chops<\/strong><\/em> are at a perfect degree of doneness. \u00a0Such was the case at Habibi when four succulent lamb chops arrived at our table. \u00a0Prepared to about medium, they had plenty of moistness and were nearly as tender as lamb meatballs. \u00a0Best of all, they were priced at about a third what it would take to fill up that aforementioned F-250. \u00a0The chops were accompanied by rice and a salad with some of the best tzatziki sauce we&#8217;ve had.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_63682\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-63682\" style=\"width: 750px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-63682 lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 750px; which is based on mutual admiration of our friend\u2019s character and sharing of the same values.
