Katz and Stage Delicatessens<\/em>.&#8221;\u00a0 I shared my reservations with my dear friend Becky Mercuri, the very best food researcher I know.<\/p>\n<p>Becky reminded me that the pastrami at Katz\u2019s Delicatessen\u2019s is proprietary, made in\u2011house with its own secret brine, spice blend, and smoking process, and not sourced from third\u2011party brands.\u00a0 According to Katz\u2019s official site and multiple feature articles, the deli does not use any pre\u2011made deli meats from companies like Boar\u2019s Head or Hillshire Farms. The owners Chris and Laura are from Long Island, N.Y. and have owned restaurants in New York, Las Vegas, and now Colorado Springs. When they moved to Colorado Springs in 1999, they immediately saw the need for a true N.Y. Deli<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The website adds: &#8220;<em>There are plenty of &#8220;sandwich shops&#8221; around but it is hard to find a true Deli when you leave the New York area. We believe the only way to do it right is to ship all the key ingredients and products direcltly from New York.\u00a0 \u00a0Our Nova lox is shipped from Brooklyn. We bring in Coney Island Gabila&#8217;s Knishes, Sabrett hot dogs, Dr. Browns soda, and of course great pickles<strong>.\u00a0 <\/strong>We bake all our Breads &amp; Bagels daily on the premises. All our soups are made from scratch each day. The edifice is much longer than it is wide. It&#8217;s a cozy, unpretentious, and classic New York-style neighborhood eatery. The interior features walls adorned with historic photos of New York City (several of which depict the Twin Towers), bringing a distinct East Coast deli feel to downtown Colorado Springs.\u00a0 The restaurant offers both indoor tables and pet-friendly outdoor seating options where patrons can dine alongside their four-legged fur babies.<\/p>\n<p>Eamst Coast Deli&#8217;s menu is very reminiscent of a menu you might see in New York City.\u00a0 The first menu category is dedicated to <em><strong>scrambles<\/strong><\/em>, one-pan meals made by cooking eggs together with chopped meats, vegetables, and potatoes.\u00a0 There are eight of them with one featured item being green &#8220;chili&#8221; (whatever that is).\u00a0 <em><strong>Eggs Benedict<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0 follow suit.\u00a0 \u00a0Then you&#8217;ll see four different <em><strong>breakfast burritos<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 You can add homemade green &#8220;chili&#8221; to each one.\u00a0 Delivered directly from Brooklyn is fresh hand-sliced <em><strong>Nova lox<\/strong><\/em> served on your choice of one of the restaurant&#8217;s homemade bagels.\u00a0 <em><strong>Eggs &amp; Omelets&#8211;<\/strong><\/em>a whopping 23 of them&#8211;range from basic to creative.\u00a0 That&#8217;s even before you get to the &#8220;build your own omelet&#8221; section of the menu.\u00a0 \u00a0The menu also showcases such &#8220;<em><strong>Hot Off The Griddle<\/strong><\/em>&#8221; specialties as blintzes, matzo brie and potato pancakes.\u00a0 Then there are specialty pancakes: chocolate chip, strawberry pecan, blueberry and more.\u00a0 Deli &amp; Bagel sandwiches round out the breakfast menu.\u00a0 Yes, that&#8217;s all the breakfast menu.\u00a0 The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eastcoastdelico.com\/menu#menu=menu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>lunch and dinner menu<\/strong><\/a> is just as packed.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_92900\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-92900\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-92900 lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 600px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 600\/800;border: 4px solid black; margin-top: 3px; margin-bottom: 3px;\" data-src=\"https:\/\/b4385483.assetcdn.net\/2.0\/4385483\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/EastCoastDeli05.png?lossy=2&strip=1&webp=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/b4385483.assetcdn.net\/2.0\/4385483\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/EastCoastDeli05.png?lossy=2&strip=1&webp=1 960w, https:\/\/b4385483.assetcdn.net\/2.0\/4385483\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/EastCoastDeli05-225x300.png?lossy=2&strip=1&webp=1 225w, https:\/\/b4385483.assetcdn.net\/2.0\/4385483\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/EastCoastDeli05-768x1024.png?lossy=2&strip=1&webp=1 768w, https:\/\/b4385483.assetcdn.net\/2.0\/4385483\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/EastCoastDeli05-113x150.png?lossy=2&strip=1&webp=1 113w, https:\/\/b4385483.assetcdn.net\/2.0\/4385483\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/EastCoastDeli05.png?size=384x512&lossy=2&strip=1&webp=1 384w, https:\/\/b4385483.assetcdn.net\/2.0\/4385483\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/EastCoastDeli05.png?size=512x683&lossy=2&strip=1&webp=1 512w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-92900\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Half a Pastrami Sandwich with Cabbage Soup<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Inexplcably not on the beverage menu, but on the dessert menu is an <em><strong>egg cream<\/strong><\/em>, a classic, frothy New York City soda fountain beverage made from cold whole milk, seltzer water, and chocolate syrup.\u00a0 Despite its misleading name, a traditional egg cream contains neither eggs nor cream. It&#8217;s not often I have the opportunity to enjoy an egg cream so when our server confirmed they could make one for me, it was a no-brainer.\u00a0 An egg cream trumps even a Dr. Brown&#8217;s root beer or cream soda.\u00a0 Dr. Brown&#8217;s is a popular soft drink typically found in Jewish delicatessens and upscale supermarkets around the United States and in English-speaking neighborhoods in Israel.<\/p>\n<p>When you order a pastrami sandwich at Katz&#8217;s Deli or the Carnegie Deli, both in New York City, you probably won&#8217;t need to eat until the next day. My Kim could eat only slightly more than half of it. A little au jus (or horseradish for me) would probably have enlivened the roast beef which becomes just a bit &#8220;one note&#8221; when there&#8217;s so much of. Still, a sandwich this big and this good cannot be denied. It&#8217;s a half-pound of sheer deliciousness.
